“Mental health became important to me when I was diagnosed with anxiety in 2019.”
Throughout my years, I always said I had anxiety but in September 2019 it was confirmed. After being diagnosed, I was put on medicine per my doctor’s suggestion. I gave her hell before even considering it.
After a while, I found myself doing well until I noticed that the medicine made me too aggressive or spaced out. Before I spoke to my doctor, I confided in my mother about speaking to a therapist. As one can imagine she did not take the news well. In fact, she had an attitude about it and told me to confide in my friends and/or figure it out on my own.
After that moment, I knew that I must get in control of my mental health. Since then, I’ve been listening to jazz music, coloring in my adult coloring book, writing, talking to my boyfriend, and reflecting. I allow myself space to be alone.
As you can imagine, I have good and bad days. Some days things are good and others I want to shut down completely. However, I’m still here and taking everything one day at a time.
You are still here too! Do not allow anyone to stop you from seeking the help that you need. You got this!
